Maybe music brought them closer together and bonded them. John Mayer and Katy Perry were reportedly flirting in their DMs tweets and texts before they met at Gold Bar in New York. 

Katy was at Madison Square Garden at a Jay-Z concert where John was performing, too. After the show, she went to meet Mayer. He was eager to meet Katy, too, as per the insider “John thought she was so hot and fun and was into her.”

In an interview with Good Morning America, Katy Perry and John Mayer shared their whole encounter. “We don’t quite know what kind of body language we should be exhibiting at the moment,” “You get too close, it’s too touchy feely. And then you get too far, it’s ‘I don’t see chemistry.’ “

John started dating Katy Perry in 2012. It was a rocky relationship. They had multiple on and off; however, both would find a reason to bond again.

In an interview with US Weekly, Katy told them it was a mutual and extremely amicable decision. They thought it was the best idea and the right time to part ways.

It was a complete shock for fans of both and a surprising U-turn from what Katy said in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. She said, “We have music as an understanding and love between each other, and we connect,” she said. “It’s like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day, if it’s been tough, I don’t really have to go into it. He just gets it.”

However, the separation was painful for John Mayer. In an interview with The New York Times, he said that the song was about his relationship with Katy Perry. But, he added, “Who else would I be thinking about?” he told the newspaper. “And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people.”
